Why Journeys?
See for yourself why parents and students choose Journeys!
Smaller Class Sizes
Many parents come to us because they are looking for a smaller class where their child isn't lost in the crowd. Oftentimes, children with learning difficulties end up sitting in the back of the classroom to avoid being noticed. In our classrooms, there is a 12:1 student to teacher ratio, so each student gets one-on-one, personalized attention.
Tailored Curriculum
We create an individualized learning plan for each student that walks through our doors. We aren't driven by getting through a grade level curriculum in one school year. We are driven by teaching the student what they need to learn in whatever time frame they need to learn it. We also offer therapies and time out of the classroom as needed.
A Place to Belong
God teaches us that we are all His children, despite our differences, challenges or experiences. Many of our families have told us that they felt like an outcast or outlier at their previous school, simply because their child was different. At Journeys, every student has something they're working on, so they don't stand out. Our students are taught to give and receive grace from their fellow students, and we all work to respect each others’ process and path.
Our Students
Our students come to us with a wide variety of challenges and at varying levels of abilities. Our staff is trained, experienced and equipped to guide and teach students with many different needs:
ADD/ADHD
Anxiety disorders
Autism and Autism Spectrum
Behavioral disorders
Intellectual disabilities
Learning disabilities
Sensory disorders
Self-contained Classrooms
Children with special educational needs who are unable to find the programming they need in their general education classroom receive individualized attention in our self-contained classroom. Small classroom sizes and individualized instruction gives students the opportunity to reach their full potential.
The self-contained classrooms serve over 80 students, ranging in age from eight to twenty-one years. Children remain in the special education classroom for the entire course of their day, receiving individual and/or small group instruction geared to their specific academic needs.
The instruction is level-based, providing the appropriate workload and level of difficulty for each student. Therefore, it is a multi-level classroom. Our approach to teaching each student is holistic; because we believe that education is best delivered and received when a student's spiritual, physical, social, emotional as well as cognitive needs are addressed.
We offer a therapeutic setting for our students. Students may visit the sensory room, music therapy space, art therapy studio, or motor lab to receive services. Counselors and therapists are on-hand to work with and support students in the classrooms
